Funeral and memorial poems are a very important part of funeral or memorial services. Poems help to comfort family and friends, and often help family and friends express their thoughts and feeling about their loved ones who have passed. Poems are used during the funeral service, burial site, or ashes scattering ceremony. They may also used in funeral printed materials, such as funeral programs, funeral program templates, prayer cards and bookmarks.

These poems are often categorized according to relationships, including poems for mothers, fathers, children, grandmothers, grandfathers and illness, and many more. Most websites will list the authors of the poems, if known (When using poems in printed materials, ensure that proper credit is given to the author). There are also several sites that e-books available for download for a nominal fee.

Funeral Program Example

The funeral program (sometimes called a memorial service bulletin) is the printed document that outlines the key points in the funeral or memorial service and summarizes the life achievements of your deceased loved one. Below is a funeral program example:


  • Choose from a variety of cover designs
  • Determine a paper size and layout style, such as bifold or triford, 8 1/2" x 11" or 8 1/2" x 14"
  • Choose a title or phrase -- "Home Going Celebration"; "In Loving Memory"; "A Memorial Tribute"; "Celebrating the Life"; "In Remembrance"; or any custom phrase
  • Location; Date; Time;
  • Name of Service Leader
  • Date of Birth and Date of Death
